Hi I’m Liz, I am a Clinical Reflexologist, Midwife and Life Coach and Priniciple Practitioner at The Reflection Zone. I have been a health professional for over 35 years, always working with the belief that with the right support and empowerment, we are all able to navigate life’s inevitable physical, emotional and mental challenges with more ease. I’ve learned the impact that compassionate, skilled and holistic support can have, and have been privileged to be part of the journey to wellness of innumerable amazing individuals. There was a time when things were pretty pear – shaped in my life. After working as a nurse and midwife and community maternal- infant health educator, I had deeply-ingrained patterns of working to the point of overwhelm and burn out. So, by the time the youngest of my three young children was a toddler, I was stressed, exhausted, had chronic back pain, and it looked like I was developing IBS (Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome). Most of the time I was so overwhelmed that I couldn’t see how stressed I was. When someone asked me how I could decrease the stress in my life I had no solutions. In other words, I felt powerless. Then, as so often happens when we have come to our wits end, out of the blue I was recommended Louise Hay’s book “You Can heal Your Life” - a book that exposed me to two ideas that went on to change my life. The first was that our thoughts influence how we experience things and the second: that we are all good enough and worthwhile enough as we are. As someone who - despite external appearances - actually had very little confidence and who had always tried to be "good enough" by being perfect, these ideas were a complete revelation and precipitated a life-saving journey back to health, happiness and resilience. Later on, these principles helped me navigate the subsequent enormous challenges of supporting a transgender child through their transition and caring for a child after a life-threatening accident.
I went on to become a Heal Your Life Teacher and Coach and also experienced, learned about and trained in many, many other tools, techniques and approaches to personal growth and healing – including training as a Mindfulness teacher through the Gawler Cancer Foundation and as a Clinical Reflexologist through the Auckland School of Reflexology. I use every single one of these tools every day in my work.
I have a particular interest in anxiety, depression and PTSD. This comes from my own very stressful journey as the parent of a chronically ill child and a severely injured child. It also developed through seeing the toll that anxiety conditions have taken on many of my friends, clients and colleagues.
In essence, the thread that runs through my life and work is one of finding ways and means to help people relax, feel better and be kinder to themself. When I work with someone, everything I do is about walking alongside them and gently supporting them to relax and discover what life feels like when their stress is alleviated.
"When I first went to see Liz I found it extremely hard to voice how I was feeling and really , what I actually wanted from our sessions. Liz was extremely patient and as the supportive , kind - and at times really funny - sessions happened, my trust in her grew to the extent that I was able to open up more than I have done with anyone else. Part of the process has been to develop strategies together, so when faced with challenges I do not panic or feel overwhelmed. As simple as this may sound this has been life changing for me. As well as one on one sessions I have also attended a weekend workshop Liz ran. Being a rather private person this was an immense challenge for me, but the supportive way the workshop was run meant I was able to relax and get the full benefit of working with others. Many thanks Liz, I look forward to continuing our journey together." Cheryl
"I started seeing Liz during a really busy time for me as we were preparing to shift to the USA. From the moment I walked into each of my sessions, I felt calm, relaxed and well taken care of. Liz truly has magical hands and an extremely good knowledge of her craft. She takes the time to understand your needs and focusses on an overall improvement in wellbeing. I would recommend her to anyone." Louise
